How can I upgrade or migrate my Retropie Micro SD card data from a Raspberry 3 A+ to a Raspberry 4 B?

What version of RetroPie do you have currently installed ? If you used an image version older than 4.6, then you'll need to install from a new 4.6 image on the new system.

To transfer your existing files, backup your ROM/BIOS/Config files from the 3A+ installation, then restore them on the new installation.

@bpcervantes We don't support 3rd party images. Use the image from https://retropie.org.uk/downoad and then add your own games as described in the docs.

Looks like a permissions problem or a funky named controller that's not saved or possibly other problems (disk full ?) that prevent Emulationstation to save the controller configuration.
My advice is to start with a clean image and work from there - https://retropie.org.uk/docs/First-Installation/.

there is an option to select analog or digital in mame2003+ as it supports analog 2003 doesnt just go to your options and change you controller setting to digital.

it sin options->control mapping change it to digital and it will work for snes pads and arcade sticks ect with having to set all the inputs. The majority of people want real analog controls when available so thats the default.

Is there an easier way to configure PiFBA on Retro Pie?

@Aplam Unless you're using a Pi Zero or PI 1, there's no reason to use PiFBA. Use lr-fbalpha and you'll get the RetroArch configuration menus (and auto-configuration from Emulationstation if you configured there the controller(s)). Make sure you use the proper ROM set for the lr-fbalpha version.
To answer to your question - no, there is not an easier way to configure PiFBA, mostly because it's an old and unmaintained FBA version and has very little use given that lr-fbalpha is also available.

EDIT: but you already knew that, didn't you ?

      On my system
      sudo apt update
      sudo apt dist-upgrade

install kernel 4.9.35-v7+. DragonRise Inc. Generic USB Joystick works without any problem (just redo controller configuration from EmulationStation).

You should never use rpi-update ;-)

Rewrote the image, and everything was nice and fresh. I can register each controller through the menu prompt but they won't connect or be recognized at all now

@backstander maybe that's it... i'll have to try that.

curious (but glad) that the script you showed actually worked with single quotes (instead of double quotes), because i couldn't figure out how to get a double quote character out of the keyboard for the life of me :)

      @wilburburns

IE: I want the Alexa audio output to go to a Bluetooth audio device, or a directly connected 1/4" jack speaker, and all of the Kodi/RetroPie output to be pushed out through the HDMI port.

Kodi uses it's own audio settings so if you want to use the 3.5mm audio jack with Kodi, you have to go into Kodi's Audio menu and change it to your 3.5mm audio jack (or both HDMI and 3.5mm).
